【Abstract】 Wh-questions are important components of both Chinese and Vietnamese interrogative system. Due to the similarities and differences between Chinese and Vietnamese wh-questions, Vietnamese students usually make errors while using Chinese wh-questions, such as interrogative pronouns or pronoun phrases are misued or in wrong order etc. Therefore, this thesis provides a comparison of Chinese and Vietnamese wh-questions which include only one interrogative pronoun or pronoun phrase in each sentence, then through conducting questionnaire surveys, analyzes Vietnamese students’ common errors in acquiring Chinese wh-questions, reveals the reasons causing such errors, and accordingly suggests some appropriate teaching methods and designments of exercises. The aim of this thesis is to present a certain reference for Vietnamese students in acquiring Chinese wh-questions and for related Chinese teaching.This thesis is divided into five parts:The first part is the introduction, which mainly elaborates the findings and some limitations of researches on Chinese wh-questions in both Chinese linguistics and teaching Chinese as a second language fields, also explains the reason of choosing this topic, the object, the scope, the methods and the data sources of this research.The second part is the comparison of Chinese and Vietnamese wh-questions. According to the inquiry messages of wh-questions, such as inquiring about people, things or places etc, this part compares the similarities and differences between Chinese and Vietnamese wh-questions which include only one interrogative pronoun or pronoun phrase in each sentence.The third part through conducting questionnaire surveys, analyzes Vietnamese students’common errors in using Chinese wh-questions, and based on the theory of error analysis, classifies these errors and discusses the causes of these errors.On the basis of the comparison of Chinese and Vietnamese wh-questions and the analysis of Chinese wh-questions misapplication by Vietnamese students, the fourth part suggests some appropriate teaching methods and designments of exercises of Chinese wh-questions for Vietnamese students. The fifth part is the conclusion, which summarizes the content of this thesis.
