【Abstract】 Vietnam and China are close neighbors since ancient time. Because they have such a special relation so Vietnam literature has deeply influenced by Chinese literature, especially in poetry. The study of Chinese literature and the relation between Vietnam lliterature and Chinese literature has long been one of the important research areas of Vietnamese academics. Vietnamese new poetry movement (1932-1945) is a great poetry revolution. Studying Vietnamese new poetry is an important topics in Vietnam. New poetry movement gained tremendous success is due to the absorption of the world’s elite poetry, including Tang poetry. The influence of Tang poetry for new poetry has long been an important matter in Vietnames literature study. Many researchers have addressed this issue but so far there has been a lack of empirical studies. Study the relation between new poetry and Tang poetry will hopefuly devote research literature of Vietnam and China. This is also the author’s first attempt in this subject as a Vietnamese student in China.This article has three parts, which includes the introduction, body, and conclusion. The introduction part is the reason and signficance for choosing the topic. The research ideas, the status of academic research, and the theoretical basic of the study are described.The body is divided into five chapters. The first chapter discusses the specific relation between Vietnam and China’s literature. Because the Vietnam and China have a long history of relations, Vietnamese classical poetry deeply influenced by Chinese classical poetry, this is a basic reason of Tang poetry influenced modern Vietnamese poetry. The second chapter generally introduces the Vietnamese new poetry movement (1932-1945), including its historical background, the process of development, and the achievement. The Vietnamese new poetry movement is a revolution in poetry, which deeply influenced by modern French poetry. As a result we discuss the influence of French symbolic poetry in this revolution. Accordingly, we also discuss the impact of French symbolic poetry and Tang poetry in Vietnamese new poetry. The last three chapters focus to indicate influence of Tang poetry in Vietnamese new poetry. The third chapter discusses modern poetry absorbs Tang poetry in words and impression, this was also one of modern poetry’s method in writting. The fourth chapter discusses modern poetry deeply absorbs Tang poetry in style of verse. Vietnamese new poetry almost uses all of Tang poetry’s styles of verse, including seven words-eight sentences style, seven words-four sentences style, Pailu style and Gexing style. Vietnamese new poetry rarely uses Tang poetry’s four words style, five words style and six words style. At the same time of using Tang’s styles of verse, new poetry also inovates them and creates new styles of verse which can be named new seven words style and five words style. These two styles of verse had become new poetry’s main styles. The fifth chapter discusses new poetry absorbs Tang poetry in content. New poetry and Tang poetry are not the same types, however Vietnamese poets identify with Chinese poets in composing. So there are many poetic inspirations of new poetry come from Tang poetry, they are:writting the moment of separation, express the leaving this world of dust and showing identifying with geisha. The content of Tang poetry is extremely rich, but new poetry simply absorbs several parts of them. In the last section of this chapter, we discuss the lack of absorbing Tang poetry’s content in new poetry.The conclusion summarizes the relations between Vietnamese new poetry and Tang poetry. The conclusion reaffirms the important play of Tang poetry in Vietnamese new poetry. Besides, this thesis also put forward several ideas to improve it in the future.
